Since the end of 1995, SEDAPAL is using a modern video well inspection system, which involves a closed-circuit special television that permits to perform the visual inspection of the water wells, drillings and monitoring wells up to 300 m depth with diameters of 4” to 18”.

The highly-trained staff of the ground water equipment, guides the command controls introducing a TV camera through the inner part of the well, determining precisely the status of pipes, filters and exact depth of the well, as well as the quantity and type of solids in suspension present in the water.

The information offered by the system is in color with a high degree of clearness to allow the display the corrosion, incrustability and/or deterioration of the structure, which is recorded instantaneously in video tape, giving a permanent and available record for further evaluation and comparison.

The diagnosis of wells through the timely inspection permits to program with reliability the conditioning processes, preventive or corrective maintenance and/or substitution of the well, thus eliminating the costs related to the uncertainty referred to the knowledge of the well status.

As of December 2001, SEDAPAL through the Ground Water Equipment, has performed 200 inspections to wells under its management, as well as wells of the users with their own source, which is equivalent to 20,000 meters of inspections performed throughout the length and width of the water bearing of the Rimac, Chillón, Lurín and Chilca valleys of the Department of Lima.

The main characteristics of the inspection equipment are the following:

• Automatic color TV camera with high-resolution, with control remote focus and iris.
• Photographic device of the video printer
• Color 14” monitor
• Video Recorder, NTSC system
• Camera control unit, including keyboard
• Remote control unit of clearness and light intensity
• Automatic pulley and wheel system, of 1000 feet capacity with 0.25” coaxial. It includes a depth meter in meters and an operation system from a console with a capacity for 70 kg weight.
